I’m Back

Sorry for the lack of posts. This is not going to be my best Olympic blog year but I promise to keep going, just like anyone not from a Nordic country in cross-country skiing two minutes into the race.

I’m not even going to attempt to do any detailed catch-up, instead I’m going to give out medals for my favorite US medalists so far.

GOLD: Ben Ogden – Silver – Men’s Cross-Country Classic Sprint

This race is electric, did you see how fast the winner ran up hill on skis? And the US men rarely win medals in XC skiing so this was a huge win for Ben. And he did a back flip off the podium! I’m giving it gold since it’s a direct race, which I know is kind of an unfair advantage to the sport as a whole in these rankings, but no one is stopping anyone from building five side-by-side skeleton tracks.

SILVER: Cory and Korey – Silver – Mixed Doubles Curling

This is hard for me, but I’m giving them silver. The very end of the final was a little meh from the US side, the Swedish wonder siblings were clearly going to win so in terms of favorite final, I have to give them Silver even though they are #1 in my heart.

BRONZE: United States – Gold – Team Figure Skating

There were ups and downs. There was another backflip. There were A LOT of tears of disappointment and joy from everyone. Drama was high. But we got the gold. And we need Amber Glenn to keep firing off amazing quotes.

And a quick look at the medal table. It was a slow start but we are back near the top! Norway is unsurprisingly still crushing the gold medals but we are holding our own. And way to go Italy, host country boost.
